Don’t Miss the Point

July 1, 2026

Results matter.

Winning matters.

Development matters.

At Hammers, we believe in competing at a high level. We believe in setting standards, pushing players, and helping young athletes become the best version of themselves.

The games matter.

But only if we understand what they’re building toward.

Because while results can define a season, they should never define a person.

The truth is, soccer teaches things that can’t always be measured on a scoreboard.

Discipline.

Resilience.

Confidence.

Leadership.

How to respond when things don’t go your way.

How to keep showing up when things get hard.

Those are the things that last.

Recently, we heard from a few former players, and their messages reminded us what this game is really capable of.

One former player reached out after being accepted to medical school. He shared that there was a point where he nearly quit soccer, but finding the right environment changed everything. The confidence and mentorship he experienced helped shape the path he’s on today.

Another player, after 11 years in the program, reflected on how the game taught her discipline, work ethic, and belief in herself. She talked about hard practices, being challenged, having fun, and learning what it meant to keep pushing through adversity.

Another reached out after getting accepted into nursing school, sharing that the lessons learned through soccer helped shape who she is today.

None of them talked about state or regional rankings.

None mentioned records.

None talked about trophies.

What they remembered was being challenged.

Being supported.

Being believed in before they fully believed in themselves.

And that’s the point.

Yes, we want players to compete.

We want them to chase goals, experience success, and learn what hard work can lead to.

But the greatest return on the game is often invisible in the moment.

It shows up years later.

In classrooms.

In careers.

In relationships.

In the way young people carry themselves when life gets hard.

Soccer matters.

The results matter.

But the person a player becomes along the way matters even more.

Don’t miss the point.
